“Songs of the Season” with Magpie
music

The renowned Magpie duo (Terry and Greg) will sing songs of nature, centered on the autumnal seasonal changes from the changing colors to the hibernation of animals and everything in between. Participants will engage in musical experiences using children’s books to illustrate concepts and give families tools and strategies to use at home. Songs with engaging and easily singable choruses will combine with movement, sign language, and meaningful gestures to bring the entire experience to life.

“West African Dance” with Mama Sylvia
dance & DRUMMING

Sylvia Soumah, the Founder and Artistic Director of Coyaba Dance Theater, will lead this upbeat and joyful workshop that explores the richness of African Dance traditions from Guinea, Mali, and Senegal. Families will learn the history of the dances through movement, music, and song.

“Amazonia Adventure” with Natasha Mirny
Music & Movement

Take an imaginary journey to the South American Amazonia rainforest with Natasha Mirny (HappyTheater.com). You will discover amazing animals and plants and learn why this place is so important and why people should help to protect and save rainforests. The workshop is highly interactive and involves creative movement, dance, puppets, and sensory experience.

“Painty art” with Katie Macyshyn
Visual Art

Painty Art will engage your whole child in art making, guiding students aged 2-5 (and caregivers) on an investigation of physicality through art materials. Crumpling, tossing, folding, dropping, wetting, rolling, rubbing, turning inside out and upside down are just some of the ways we will explore physical properties and create awesome abstract art.

Please wear easy to remove shoes and special art clothes. We will get painty!

Where will each session take place?

The class takes place in the beautiful sanctuary of Dumbarton United Methodist Church. The Dumbarton Arts & Education offices are located in the church.

Please enter through the front doors and a staff member will be there to greet you and show you to the space.

Is the space wheelchair accessible?

Our space is fully ADA accessible. There is a ramp to the front doors of the building and an elevator going up to the sanctuary where the classes are held. Please contact us at education@dumbartonartsed.org, if you have any additional questions.

Can i register with more than one child?

Yes! Registration is per family rather than per person. You may bring the number of people you have in your family, including grandparents or other extended family or community members.

What is parking like?

Free 2-hour street parking is available on Dumbarton St. NW and surrounding streets. The neighborhood parking is can be hit or miss, but generally there are spaces available within a few blocks. There are also paid parking garage nearby. Those include the following:
